Q: What is the normal operating season? Catch Five Charters is open for business from May 15 through October 1.
Q: Does Catch Five Charters supply all the necessary equipment and bait/lures? We supply all the best equipment available. The only items you need to bring are yourself and a fishing license.
Q: Where can I obtain a fishing license and what kind do I need? Most hardware stores, tackle shops, gas stations, and some marinas sell licenses. Baileys Harbor Marina issues licenses. Make sure to buy a license at least one day ahead of time because most places that issue licenses aren't open around the clock. The most popular and easiest way of purchasing a license is to go online at DNR Online Licensing Center or by calling their license phone sales number at 877-945-4236.
Q: What else should I bring? See What To Bring link.
Q: What is your cancellation policy? Cancellations on private trips must be made 14 days before departure to receive a refund of your deposit. No refunds are granted on shared trips.
Q: Is seasickness a problem and how can I cope with it? If you have experienced motion sickness or feel you may, a Dramamine (non-drowsy) taken 1-2 hours before departure will alleviate most cases.
Q: How many people can be taken out per trip? We can take 1-6 passengers.
Q: When is the fishing season? The salmon/trout season runs from June-September, but July and August are the peak months for king salmon when the fish are largest and most aggressive. June is a prime month for fast-action steelhead trout.
Q: What age groups are suitable for catching salmon/trout and how big can the fish get? Salmon are hard fighting fish and make long runs when hooked. Fighting the fish can take up to 30 minutes for the largest fish. Battling these silver giants takes courage, patience, and adrenaline. Kids may try their luck with these fish, but may need assistance from adults for the larger fish. On a typical trip, a variety of sizes are caught so a right-sized fish will usually be available for the junior angler. Fish as large as 30 pounds are possible, so be prepared for the battle of your life. We welcome families aboard the Catch Five III and the crew will gladly assist the junior angler with landing the "big one."
Q: What do I do with my fish after I catch them? The crew will clean and package your catch free of charge for your dining enjoyment later.
Q: What is the minimum size fish that may be kept and how many may you keep? The minimum size is 10 inches, but salmon that small are rare. Each person is allowed to keep five fish, hence the name of our boat, The Catch Five.
Q: What forms of payment are accepted? Cash, check, Visa, and Mastercard is accepted.
Q: Who do I tip and is it expected? If you feel the mate has served you well, a tip is customary and will be greatly appreciated by him.
Q: What happens if the weather is too rough to fish and the trip gets cancelled? We will not leave the dock if the weather is not adequate. If we do leave and unexpected waves/weather get out of hand within the first hour, we will return to the dock. In both cases, your fare will be refunded.
Q: What time of the day is best for catching salmon and trout? Salmon and trout feed aggressively one hour before to one hour after sunrise and sunset. Early morning is generally the best. Most days, fish can still be caught throughout the day, but the action isn't usually as fast and furious as early morning.
Q: Are alcoholic drinks allowed on board? You may bring your own, but we request that you drink in moderation.
Q: Can individuals join in on a charter? Certainly! We will do our best to fill the boat to our 6 person capacity so that each individual pays the least amount. Strangers who first met on a fishing charter have sometimes become lifelong friends.
