The Catch Five crew witnessed some incredible action this past week! Deep water south of the bell buoy proved the ticket using a variety of flasher/flies and spoons down deep. Even though the water has warmed into the upper 60s, the kings have been found throughout the entire water column, however, most of the 4-year olds have been taken near the bottom. Today strong south winds blew, but hopefully it will cool the water down and keep the kings going!

The salmon fishing the past ten days has been the best of the season in my opinion. I don't think I've had so many trips with 4 or more fish on at once. Despite a few slow days during the full moon, our crew has managed some impressive catches both north and south of the bell buoy. Wind shifts from the south and west brought in some very cold water in the mid-40s which brought along some excellent fishing! The water has since warmed back to the mid-60s, but fishing remains good yet. Spoons have remained the best for me, especially Moonshines in the glow patterns during the morning hours. Leadcores also remain good.
John Thorpe and son with a VERY quick limit catch!

With 15 fish from 12-22# the cooler just barely could close!

Dan and Liz's family who battled the 8-foot seas and rain still managed a nice catch all in 4 hours

Randy Stefan and crew with a 17-fish catch! Great job guys.

David and crew brought their weird noises and fish catching skills once again this year.

Well the 27th Annual Kewaunee/Door Salmon Tournament is underway and in full swing along with some great fishing! The past week has been very good for me in shallow water. Previous experience with the tournament has taught me to stay away from the packs of boats that puts too much pressure on the fish. Spoons have been the most productive so far for me this year, but lately the flasher/flies have produced more fish for me. With the heavy fishing pressure, my leadcores and long leads off the downriggers have been working the best. Today, Gary Bax and family caught 15 fish which included a 24# king along with a few others 20# and over, but unfortunately they decided not to purchase a tournament ticket! Below are a few pictures from the past week.

Fishing has remained very good the past week. Yesterday morning the bite was a little slow, but the Smith clan still managed a good catch, which even included an Atlantic Salmon! (pictured below, left) Most fish have come between 40 and 70 feet of water both early and later in the day. Spoons have been the ticket for me, with a few flasher and aqua flies also being productive.

The king salmon have finally moved in for the summer. Larger than normal kings have been caught for this time of year. The best action has been occurring shallow early and deeper as the sun comes up. In the past few mornings, we've experienced a good early morning bite with most fish coming on a mix of flasher/flies spoons. Here are a few pictures from the past week:

Fishing continues to be good for both rainbows and kings. The rainbow action has been occurring between 300-400 feet of water near temperature breaks. We have been experiencing very fast action with these fish when we find these "roamers." The kings have been showing up near shore with some very nice sized fish coming in.

The past two weeks have been clear, calm, and warm and in turn heated up the fishing! Some nice temperature breaks have set up in 150-250 feet of water, attracting steelhead by the numbers. Fishing the top 30 feet with orange and silver spoons has resulted in some limit catches of steelhead. The kings are also starting to move in. The 100-150 foot depths have been the most productive using white and chartreuse flashers along with green flies off downriggers and copper. As I’ve said, the kings are looking very healthy and abnormally large for June. Also, almost all the kings I’ve cut open have been packed full of alewives so everything is pointing towards a great season!

The fishing out of Baileys Harbor has been gaining some momentum for the past week. I've been out a few times and have been getting steady catches almost every trip. The fish look very healthy and large for this time of year, and I have been marking large pods of bait so hopefully this is a good indication of things to come!

Well the boat will be in the water this weekend to start a new fishing season! The whole crew has the itch to get fishing again for some salmon and trout action. Reservations are filling up very quickly this year so book early to get your preferred dates! See you on the water.
